After walking aimlessly along Maginhawa St. on a humid Saturday night, Toto and I finally decided on trying Don-Day Restaurant in Malingap St. I've never eaten in a Korean restaurant before because I heard their food tastes weird (and they probably think the same about Pinoy food) so I didn't know what to expect from Don Day.
First Impressions
Call me shallow but I was a bit disappointed when I stepped inside the restaurant. I've always imaged it as some posh place where affluent people hang out based on the number of sushal cars parked outside (Toto used to live just across the street so we always saw how jam-packed the restaurant could get, especially on weekends). I guess you could compare the interior to a typical bulalohan / karinderia along the road.
So-So Food
The food was okay, nothing to really rave about. Their unlimited samgyupsal was a little bland for my liking so I wasn't really able yo unleash my "eat-all-you-can" prowess that night. Some of the food was obviously reheated, like the sweet & sour chicken. Even their mussels were chewy. I didn't have the courage to try the kimchi though ;) At the end of the day both of us were full (but not satisfied) thanks to the bottomless iced tea (P50/head).
Do I recommend it?
I don't think I can recommend Don Day to those looking for authentic Korean food experience though the price is relatively cheaper that other well-known eat-all-you-can restos - P299/head for unli pork and P399/head for unli pork & beef. Not sure if it's because we went an hour before the closing time so the food wasn't as fresh as it's supposed to be and the staff wasn't as welcoming as they should be. Maybe we will try visiting during lunch time to see if there's any difference in food quality and service.
And oh! If you'll try their buffet make sure to lick your plate clean because Don Day charges P500 for leftovers! :O
