I.CAN'T.STOP.EATING. If tomorrow were judgment day, I'd probably be given a one-way ticket to hell for gluttony.. and I'd tag along Toto :p If I were to choose where to eat for the last time before the said "flight" (God forbid!), I'd probably say Jatujak Thai Restaurant at SM North The Block, one of our ultimate go-to places for yummy comfort food!
Toto discovered this small place late last year and we've been eating here almost every time we go to SM North The Block to buy our groceries - and I would always order Crispy Pork Salad / Moo Grob (~Php250), which is something similar to our lechon kawali that's tossed with chicharon, onion, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, and basil leaves. As in every.single.time.
This time, however, Toto urged me to try something different to, you know, "broaden my gustatory horizon." ;) The reason why I would always order Crispy Pork Salad is because it is 'safe' - I've never been to Thailand, never tried Thai food from any other restaurants in the Philippines and never liked wasting money on food that disappointed me. But as for all the things in life, there's always a first time - and it happened today when I didn't order Crispy Pork Salad :p

Tom Yum Mixed Seafood (Large), Php285 - ★★★★☆
Think our local
sinigang with a hint of basil, plus various seafood like shrimp, mussel, squid and fish - tom yummy! =)) Bagoong Rice, Php170 - ★★★★★
Otherwise known as khao kluk kapi - steamed rice that's stir fried with shrimp paste (bagoong) topped with cilantro, egg, green mango and bits of pork binagoongan. Kanin pa lang, ulam na! (labo) This is good for 2-3 pax, by the way.
Thai Fried Spring Rolls (Pork), Php145 - ★★☆☆☆
Jatujak offers two types of their spring rolls or
poh pia - vegetable and pork. I ordered the pork variant and to be honest, I might as well have ordered their vegetable spring rolls. I couldn't taste the pork! :| All I sensed was the bean sprout / togue. Chicken with Thai Basil, Php230 - ★★★☆☆
Kra Pao Gai is chicken stir fried with oyster sauce, onion, bell pepper and basil. The beef variety of this dish is tastier, in my honest opinion. And the serving size is small.
Lemon Iced Tea (Php75) & Thai Milk Tea (Php95) - ★★★☆☆
Their lemon iced tea was too sweet for my liking but Php75 for a bottomless order? Not too bad.
Compared to our previous visits when we liked all the food we ordered, today was a bit different. We loved the tom yum and bagoong rice but were a bit disappointed with the spring rolls and chicken with Thai basil. You see, this is exactly the reason why I always ordered crispy pork salad in the past! :p But at least now we know what NOT to order when we come and visit again :)
