As expected, we passed by a lot of bumpy and dangerously steep roads before reaching Samal Island Huts in the quiet town of Babak. The resort is not as well-known as Maxima or Blue Waters so the habal-habal drivers didn't know exactly where it is... and neither did we :O We almost missed the resort if not for Ate Pong's hawk vision ;) The resort, as we later discovered, lies in an unassuming residential area that does not really come off as "touristy," what with all the gated houses, barangay hall, and basketball court nearby.
Love at First Sight
Kimmy and Pieter Vererfven
Kimmy is the more hospitable between the two. Pieter, as expected, was straightforward. It was a bit awkward with him but his wife was more than hospitable and welcoming. But then again, we didn't really expect them to roll out the red carpet for us but it was a bonus that the owners were generally very easy to deal with :)
The Ambiance
The Room
THE GOOD
The A/C in our room was working well and cooled the room pretty quickly.
The bed was comfortable and the linen was fresh.
The bathroom is huge! Water was not a problem during our visit and the flush was working. There's also a bidet so.. :)
THE BAD
The thin blinds do not really cover the window and it felt like someone from the outside could still see us. We had no choice but to change clothes in the bathroom.
The walls are thin so we could hear the guests from the adjacent room pretty clearly.
The Lounge Area & Swimming Pool
There are two outdoor lounge chairs by the pool (under a beach umbrella) where visitors can relax, read a book or take an afternoon snack. There's also a small bamboo set on the other side of the pool where we chose to have breakfast each morning.

The Best Accommodation in Samal
**If you're looking for a sausage fest or a melon party, Samal Island Huts may not be the best place for you as there are only three rooms open for guests (maximum of only 10 people at the same time -- heaven for me!).
